Jess & Rob | Cape Cod Falmouth Massachusetts Backyard Wedding

Jess grew up spending summers at her aunt's beach house on Cape Cod, and her love for the memories she has of this place radiated through the way she described how happy it made her. When I asked Jess what she was most excited about for her wedding day, she said that she couldn't wait to share this special beach with all of her friends and family.

A beach wedding is ALWAYS a beautiful thing, but I was in awe the entire day as I witnessed not the unconditional love Jess & Rob have for each other - but the joy and support and love that radiated from all of their friends and family. These people loved each others company so much, it was unavoidable! As a thunderstorm rolled in off the coast during cocktail hour, everyone pitched in to quickly secure the tent and there was never a moment where smiles couldn’t be seen all around you, even as rain pummeled the sides of the tent. Eventually, the skies cleared to reveal a beautiful sunset, but hardly anyone noticed because no one was waiting for the sun to shine again - they were too busy having fun.

Duxbury Beach Portrait Session | Powder Point Bridge | Lifestyle Photography Massachusetts

Powder Point Bridge in Duxbury has a special place in my heart, so when Jillienne suggested we shoot her lifestyle portrait session there I was so excited! It was a beautiful, windy day. We explored the beach in her red truck, ran around barefoot and watched the tide coming in from the shore. Coastal beach sessions can be so much more than posing in front of the ocean, and places like Duxbury Beach offer so many alternative locations to take portraits. It’s safe to say that this is a top 10 spot for portrait sessions in Massachusetts!

Alternative Wedding Outfit Ideas for Your Unconventional Wedding | Massachusetts Wedding Photography

Who says you have to wear white on your wedding day anyway?! I’ve collected a few of my favorite alternative wedding outfits to inspire you to think outside the box when planning your wedding. **Product photos are shown for example only and are not my own images!**

Non-traditional wedding dresses leather jacket.jpg

Feeling edgy? Why not rock a black vegan leather jacket over your wedding dress for a sophisticated look with a dash of rock n’ roll? This option is somehow timeless while adding a little something extra to your look that will definitely turn heads.

Bring on the Flower Power - a beautiful hand embroidered floral wedding dress is a one of a kind way to ensure you feel special on your big day. Coordinate pops of color into your dress that go with your flowers and other decor details for a little extra oomph!

Wedding Pantsuit.jpg

Not a skirt person? How about rocking a pant suit for your nuptials? Think of all the activities you can accomplish! Jumping shots will be no problem with pants, and you can add a bold colorful blouse underneath to tie everything together beautifully.

If you spent more time in the thrift store than the department stores, you may want to consider opting for a vintage frock when you say I Do. Pick your favorite era and go from there! A 1970s look for boho brides, or 1950s for something even more retro can be a classy edition to your overall wedding theme.

What if you’re looking for something a bit more glam? Can’t go wrong with a white jumpsuit! Just make sure it’s comfortable so you can dance the night away.

In-Home Lifestyle Couples Photography | Massachusetts Portrait Session | Stephanie & Jack

When I asked Steph how we should document the way she and Jack spend their weekends together, she excitedly suggested they spend time cuddled up with blankets reading on their porch. The porch off of their 2nd floor apartment is screened in and directly adjacent to the kitchen, so sometimes they will jump through the window instead of the door to serve each other beverages! Needless to say this made for some very sweet and comical photos.

After spending a good 30 minutes on the porch, we popped inside to wash dishes and have some tea together. It was the perfect mix of casual and intimate that makes these at-home couples photography sessions so great!

At the end of the day, we’re all having so much fun together it can be hard to call it. Jack very patiently dealt with me announcing the shoot was over 3 separate times and then immediately having another idea I wanted to try. I find so much inspiration in the every day moments, and when I’m on a roll there’s no stopping me!

Steph’s favorite photo from their session is the image of Jack stirring her mug of tea. it was a completely unprompted, quick little moment that encapsulated their relationship perfectly. I always love to hear which images move my clients most.

Massachusetts New England Portrait Session | Kyra

Kyra is a fellow photographer so we spent some time during her session experimenting with some ideas I’ve had brewing for awhile now!!! Love it when my subjects are down to get creative and try something new and different. Also LOOK AT HER EYES!!! Like could they be any more spectacular? The answer is no, no they could not.

Backyard BBQ - Have a big backyard? Host friends and family at your place! Rent a tent, tables and chairs and set up a BBQ station to serve your guests. Set up lawn games like giant Jenga, Twister and Horseshoes and have a fun-filled night rocking out to your favorite local band.

Campground - Some campgrounds, like Camp KOA in Middleboro, will allow you to rent out their entire campground for your wedding! Set up your friends in cozy cabins for a night of fun, marshmallow roasting and outdoor adventures.

Favorite restaurant - Do you have a favorite date spot that could accommodate a private party, or even allow you to rent out their entire space for the evening? Why not use a space that already holds so much meaning for you - the spot where you went to brunch on your third date can become the spot you celebrated your marriage, and future dates there will be even more special! Plus, if you aren’t excited about decorating usually you can work with whatever decor is built into the space.

Mountaintop - Alright, who DOESN’T love the idea of exchanging vows on top of a mountain? What could be more spectacular than sharing such an intimate and meaningful moment with a few close friends and nothing but blue sky all around? While mountaintop weddings can be a little bit challenging to organize, I think we can all agree the results are WORTH IT.

Botanical garden - If you’re a huge nature lover like me, the idea of getting married in a botanical garden gives you butterflies (or wait, are those actual butterflies?! …’cuz botanical gardens…have butterflies). There’s something to be said for the timeless elegance of a flower filled wedding in the gardens.
